Patriots Equal Best Winning Streak From Brady Years with Triumph Against Jets
First-year player Henderson has recorded five TDs during the current campaign
New England matched their top unbeaten stretch since the Brady period as they overcame AFC East rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the Patriots notched an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since iconic QB Brady's closing campaign with the team in the 2019 season
QB Drake Maye accumulated 281 passing yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The win extends the Patriots advantage at the top of the AFC East as they improved to a 9-2 record, with the New York at the foot after dropping to two victories and eight defeats
The opposing team had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Justin Fields scoring a short rushing score to cap the New York's opening drive
But the home team fought back in the second quarter as Henderson rushed for two short rushing scores before the ball carrier caught a pass from Drake Maye at the back of the endzone midway through the third quarter to make it 21-7
"That was a big time for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He wants to be great."
Justin Fields connected with John Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the Patriots closed out the victory
