Reports indicate that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
An Important Return to Panem
Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their appearance will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.
This signifies the sixth cinematic outing in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who was behind most of the previous films in the series.

The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several notable actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a earlier incarnation of the calculating President Snow.
