Flights Resume at Edinburgh Airport After Significant Air Traffic Control Outage

Jets on the runway at the Scottish hub
A technical fault at Edinburgh's ATC meant no planes could arrive or depart from the airport.

Air travel have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a major technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended after an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in jets at the stand while the issue persisted.

Operations Restart with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, considerable delays are expected to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," officials reiterated.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the full ground stop to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers should still plan to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the airport as backlogs are worked through.
