Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night stating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
